Coming 2025!
In 1910 J.B. Fishel began his business located at 1517 W. King Street, the small three story structure you see in front of the building today. He had one oven and only a few racks and pans. Take note of the train tracks running down the middle of King Street here in this photo.
As business grew he knew it was time to expand. In 1925 J.B. Fishel built what you see today at 1501 W. King Street, a 52,000 SF bakery. In the peak of production they were exceeding 24,000 loaves of bread daily out of their facility. You will see here the architectural rendering of the J.B. Fishel Bakery Building.
As business was in their peak J.B. Fishel's even offered home delivery. Pictured here is a photo of 36 home delivery trucks and the drivers taken at the York Fair grounds.
After J.B Fishel's death in 1940 is sons took over the business and continued operations for many years. Here is a photo of the fence that was installed during WWII for security. In 1965 however another York family bakery, Hershey Baking Company, purchased the business and ran it for only two years until 1967 when operations were shut down indefinitely.

Bread didn't always come sliced. Here is a bread knife from J.B. Fishel's Bakery.
Fishel's Bakery supplied the local school districts with book covers. Every household with children would see their advertising daily. This book cover is from 1942.
I'm sure many still remember this! York county schools made n annual field trip to tour the bakery and were given theses booklets about the bread making process.
Here is the back over of those booklets given to students. They would also allow the public to tour the facility a few times a year.
During the depression in the 1930s the bakery would include coupons in the bread wrappers that people could redeem for merchandise.
Jay-Bee Farm's was their dairy farm in York New Salem.
